Limits of confidentiality

A common worry for many students is that if they tell the school counselor something he/she will tell someone else. Anything you talk about in the counseling office falls within the limits of confidentiality.  If you are upset with a teacher, for example, and talk to the counselor about it - he/she will not tell your teacher what you said.

So, just what does this mean?

The counselor will not tell anyone else what you tell him/her except if any of the following is true:

1. Your life is in danger

2. Someone else’s life is in danger

3. Someone is abusing you
