Ø      Karen Neubauer requested review of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator)

o       In 2005-06 a recommendation was made by the Safety Committee to have AEDs placed in the high schools and then possibly other schools in our district.  The budget committee did not approve the recommendation and therefore no defibrillators were purchased. A lengthy discussion occurred today about the initial recommendation, the research that was made, the proposal and the outcome. Research showed that emergency medical response time to any one of our schools in the district was minimal. Research also showed there would be greater likelihood that a community member or staff member would have need for a defibrillator than a student. The cost (of the machines, training, maintaining) may have outweighed the actual need of the machine on site.

o       The Safety Committee has appointed Paulette Freeman and Mike Anderson to review the material from the previous proposal, obtain new costs and obtain necessary information on maintaining the machines, etc. and bring back some information to the committee in May for further discussion and possible recommendation.

Review Claims:

Ø      No questions or concerns about the claims for January and February.

Ø      Point made that most claims that did not require a doctor’s visit were in certain programs and many involved the behavior of the same student(s).

Ø      Next meeting will be on May 13th at 3:15 pm.  Please E-mail Denise with any questions or concerns that she can add to the agenda.

Ø      Meeting was adjourned at 3:50 pm.
